Teacher Gerd Inger Moe at Smeaheia school is pleased that it has become more subjects already in 1. klasse.
Many readers know her as the teacher who, together with researchers from elementary school teacher education at the University of Stavanger adopted methods of Russian mathematics teaching in their classes at Smeaheia school in Sandnes. There was success with increased motivation and learning for students.
Moe's 64 years and has been teaching at the primary level in 35 year. She was more pleased with the profession by the Knowledge, added to 2006:
- With the Knowledge came new curricula with far more professional focus. Luckily. It has become much more interesting for us as teachers, sier hun.
Moe welcome students from teacher education program to practice regularly. She says many are surprised when they see how much professional it is in primary school.
- Students like to think it is most playing and trips. Therefore, choosing the 5-10 program. But that was before. When we taught only the uppercase 1. klasse. Now I start with letters and numbers from day one. Many students can read when they arrive. They should also have challenges, Moe says, and lists a number of benefits teaching job for the youngest pupils:
- They are so keen to learn when they start school. This capacity for learning is quite possible for the teacher to exploit. Students are like sponges and soak up everything you have. It's really motivating for a teacher. I have had students who have been in France and Germany who want to learn both languages when they start school. Students are curious and motivated, nothing is too difficult.
- You can set guidelines and structures so that students develop correct norms, how to be with each other. You lay the foundation for class culture and habits.
- I have thrived throughout as teacher. It has peaked in recent years after we started with math project 1. class in 2009. Students have earned on the both academically and socially. They work together and discuss. It is these students I have now in 5. klasse. They are quite upstairs when it comes to mathematics. We have to jump over several chapters in the Norwegian textbooks, says Gerd Inger Moe.
